5 Things to Know About: The Bridesmaid and the Jerk

Hello everyone! I'm back today to share some thoughts I have on the book The Bridesmaid and the Jerk by Kayla Tirrell & Daphne James Huff. I am new to both of these authors, and this was a great book to start with! It's funny, humorous, and the story is very unique.

There are a couple of things that really stood out to me about this novel.

  • A very creative concept (it's about a wedding competition reality show)
  • A small cast of characters
  • A perfect love/hate relationship between Sienna and Fox

That's right. A wedding competition reality show. How cool! I was imagining it to be on the same par as an MTV reality show but to be honest, these cast members were a lot more tame.

Here is the description from Goodreads for an official synopsis:

It’s lights, cameras and action at the Emerald Inn!
After years as a struggling actress, Sienna Hudson finally gets a leading role in a television series. Too bad it’s a reality show for her sister’s wedding. Once filming starts, Sienna decides to use Wedding Games to catch the eye of the show’s producer and launch her career to the next level.

Fox Wilson learned the harsh realities of being in the spotlight when he was young, and has avoided it ever since. But when his best friend plans a reality show wedding and asks him to be his best man, he reluctantly agrees.

When Fox and Sienna are pitted against each other in every competition, tensions run high, and attractions run higher.
Can Fox and Sienna see past the reality show drama and take a chance on love? Or will one of them end up getting played?

Tune into Wedding Games, the reality show packed with drama, surprises, and...romance.

Here are Five Things I Think you Should Know About This Book:

1. Reality Shows are Drama in SO Many Ways

This group isn't even really that dramatic, and yet the cameras really bring out the worst in some of them.  I guess that's just how it goes with reality television. It made me laugh how even when she was trying to be inconspicuous, Sienna still managed to get herself into trouble at times.

Be prepared for a lot of drama in this books because the bride and groom are under a lot of stress and the other characters (the bridal party) are just trying to keep everything running smoothly. Little do they know, it turns out to be a very difficult task.

2. Sienna is adorable

I thought she was really cute and a fun character to read about. She's an actress so she can be a bit dramatic, but you can tell that she really wants what's best for her sister and she really wants Audrey to have a great wedding.

3. Love, Hate, Neutral Feelings, Hate, then Love

That's pretty much the cycle of Sienna and Fox's relationship. And I loved it. Haha. They have reasons to be suspicious of each other in the beginning. Sienna incorrectly assumes that Fox is a janitor. Meanwhile, Fox is sure that Sienna is going to ruin the wedding day of two of his best friends. But as they get to know each other, they begin to realize that maybe that were too quick to make judgments about each other.

I thought the authors had really good pacing and the story felt believable as Sienna and Fox got to know each other better and learn more about each other. They had setbacks, of course, which was very true to life. Things never go exactly how we plan for them to go!

4. There's a bit of a cliffhanger

That's right. Apparently there are more books coming in this series! Yay! The only problem is that this one ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. Sigh. I checked goodreads to see what I could find out about the next release but there's not anything up there yet.

5. Unanswered Questions

Because of the cliffhanger, I have some questions! I have a feeling they might be answered in the next book. Hopefully.

Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. If you're a fan of weddings and drama this just might be the book for you.
